Demonstration of anti-discrimination student movement demanding Sheikh Hasina’s trial
The anti-discrimination student movement has demanded the interim government to prosecute former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the main accused in the International Criminal Tribunal. They claim that Sheikh Hasina and her associates should also be made accused in that case.
These words were said on behalf of the anti-discrimination student movement, the platform of the quota reform movement, in a protest rally at the foot of the Raju sculpture of Dhaka University on Monday afternoon. They called the program to ‘prohibit the student politics of occupying the campus and demand the trial of Sheikh Hasina’.
Hasnat Abdullah, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, said in the rally, “Sheikh Hasina should be made the main accused in the International Criminal Tribunal, who were her accomplices, and her accomplices of fascism.”
Hasnat said, “The role of media in making our movement universal is undeniable. The role of media in overthrowing dictatorship is undeniable. But we can see that some media is indulging in conspiracy to rehabilitate the murderers. Sheikh Hasina should be prosecuted by the International Criminal Tribunal as the main accused. This is our main demand. At that time, Hasnat Abdullah criticized an advisor of the interim government without mentioning his name. He said, ‘Today we see many advisers giving speeches to rehabilitate murderers. We would like to remind the advisers that you became advisers through the student uprising. So when you give a speech, you should have the picture of Ganobhaban on August 5 in mind.
Sarjis Alam, another coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, alleged at the rally that some ‘tyranny’ at various levels of the bureaucracy was planning a coup. He said, “We want to inform that when the students of Bangladesh are united, then these coups of yours will fold their tails and run away,,
Akhtar Hossain, former Social Services Secretary of Daksu and convener of Democratic Students’ Shakti also addressed the rally. He said, “Even though Sheikh Hasina fled the country, dictatorship still remains in the country. The misdeeds that Awami League terrorists are doing all over the country, the student society will suppress those misdeeds with strong hands. Minority communities may be attacked. The student body will allow them to get their chests in safety. Those who are plotting ahead of August 15, we will not let their plot succeed in any way. We will be on the streets for months, but we will not let our revolution fail,,
After the rally, a protest march was taken out from Raju Bhaskarya. The procession of huge students went around the various roads of the campus and ended at Raju Bhaskar,,.
